The Ocean Jasper beads I have used to make this bracelet are just gorgeous. They are faceted cylinders of warm, earthy, fall colors. The bead hanging at the toggle is a smooth triangular cylinder just as beautiful. I love the variety of color of Ocean Jasper! I have paired it with golden dyed cultured freshwater Pearls that bring out the rich colors of the Jasper. The beads are highlighted with gold-plated Pewter spacers, tiny faceted Pyrite beads and closed with a 'radiant' Saki bronze toggle clasp.
Jaspers have been used as ornamental and gemstones from ancient times. They are microcrystalline Quartz in association with a variety of other minerals which give the Jaspers colorful patterns and bands. Jaspers are often named according to its color or patterns. Ocean Jasper is found off the coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean and is fossilized Coral. Its limited availability and uniqueness make it a gemstone of value. The diverse colors are due to trace minerals. It is also known as ‘Snake Agate’ by the native Madagascans.
Pearls are thought to represent innocence and integrity. A favorite with brides. It is the birthstone for June. Cultured Pearls are formed in both marine and freshwater bivalve mollusks (oysters, mussels, etc.) when irritating ‘foreign’ substances become trapped within the folds of the bivalve’s mantle. Not all such ‘pearls’ can be used for jewelry. Natural pearls are formed without any human intervention and are quite rare and hence very valuable. Cultured pearls are mass-produced in a ‘pearl farm’ where humans introduce the irritating substance into the mollusks to create the pearl. Most freshwater pearls are cultured pearls formed within mussels.
Length: 7.5 inches. Guide to sizing Bracelets: Using a measuring tape, measure snugly (not too tight) around the wrist just below the wrist bone. For adults add 3/4th to 1 inch to above measurement to determine the bracelet length. This is the length given above.
Beading Wire: 0.19"/49 strand professional quality beading wire with 14k gold-filled crimps, and crimp covers. 14K Gold-Filled (14K GF) beads are made by bonding a layer of 14K gold with high pressure and heat to base metal and then shaped as desired. Industry standard requires that the quantity of gold be at least 1/20th of the total weight and the Karat measurement must be marked.
Bead size: 11 x 14 mm faceted cylinders; 8 mm pearls.
Care: Clean with soft fabric, or non-abrasive polishing cloth. Avoid direct contact with perfumes, hairspray, and deodorants. Jewelry should be worn after application of cosmetics. Store wrapped in soft fabric or sealed in plastic bag.
