This elegant necklace is made from 46.4 grams (1.64 ozs) of gorgeous, hand faceted oval beads of natural Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan. If you love Lapis Lazuli (and who does not?) this necklace is worth a second look. The freeform oval beads are spaced between gold-plated pyrite rounds and beaded spacers, with closure provided by a teardrop shaped golden toggle. At the toggle hangs a teardrop shaped single Lapis Lazuli bead, so charming!
Lapis lazuli gets its name from the Latin and Persian (Iranian) words for ‘blue stone’. The color of this gemstone ranges from light blue to deep royal blue. The darker the blue the more valuable the gemstone. It is characterized by glittering specks of golden pyrite and imitation Lapis lazuli lacks the pyrite specks. This stone was associated by ancient Egyptians with deity and royalty, and also motherhood. It is thought to bring peace and cure depression. The best quality Lapis lazuli comes from Afghanistan, where it has been mined for centuries. It is also found in Russia and Colorado, USA.
