Earthy matte-finish beads of green Zebra Jasper are used to create this necklace, the design inspired by tribal and ethnic jewelry. I have used three hand made brass beads from Ghana, Africa asymmetrically along this necklace. The brass beads are highlighted with little nuggets of red Coral. The brass beads are hand made using a 7th Century technique in the Ashanti region of Ghana in Africa. Each bead is made with wax and then cast with molten brass. Amazing that such a skill and labor of love still exists in the 21st Century!
Jaspers have been used as ornamental and gemstones from ancient times. They are microcrystalline Quartz in association with a variety of other minerals which give the Jaspers colorful patterns and bands. Jaspers are often named according to its color or patterns. Zebra Jasper is so named because of the white stripes on a green, black or brown matrix.
