Beautiful round smooth beads of Wood Opalite, ranging from cream to brown in color form a ring around two hand-faceted Carnelian beads. The Carnelian beads are sandwiched between a pair of brass heishi spacers.
Wood Opalite is formed when trees from thousands of years ago are fossilized or petrified. When forests become covered with mud or sand, instead of decomposition, the wood becomes fossilized. During this process various minerals are deposited within the wood, often preserving the internal structure, such as wood rings in the fossil. Wood Opalite is a member of the Quartz family, and ranges in color from light cream to earthy wood. Due to the thousands of years taken to form this substance, naturalists associate this gemstone with patience and transformation.
Carnelian is associated with the heart and emotional warmth, considered by some to promote courage, confidence and self-motivation. It is the alternate birthstone for July. In Arabic and Oriental cultures it was thought to protect the wearer from the 'evil eye' of envious persons.
