Tanzanite and Freshwater Cultured Pearl Bracelet and EarringsTanzanite and Freshwater Cultured Pearl Bracelet and EarringsTanzanite and Freshwater Cultured Pearl Bracelet and EarringsTanzanite and Freshwater Cultured Pearl Bracelet and Earrings

This two stranded bracelet is made from a strand of lustrous white potato-shaped cultured freshwater pearls and a strand of blue Tanzanite smooth nuggets. This delicate bracelet is finished with sterling silver beads and toggle. A brushed silver heart bead hangs at the toggle. A pair of matching earrings completes the set. So lovely!

Tanzanite is possibly the world's rarest gemstone. It is found only in one place on earth, in northern Tanzania in East Africa along the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. In its natural state Tanzanite in reddish brown, heat treatment turns it blue with a purple hue! This led to its discovery in 1967, when after a forest fire, blue crystals of the gemstone were found by Masai tribesmen of the area. It is also considered the birthstone for December.

Pearls are thought to represent innocence and integrity. A favorite with brides. It is the birthstone for June. Cultured Pearls are formed in both marine and freshwater bivalve mollusks (oysters, mussels, etc.) when irritating ‘foreign’ substances become trapped within the folds of the bivalve’s mantle. Not all such ‘pearls’ can be used for jewelry. Natural pearls are formed without any human intervention and are quite rare and hence very valuable. Cultured pearls are mass-produced in a ‘pearl farm’ where humans introduce the irritating substance into the mollusks to create the pearl. Most freshwater pearls are cultured pearls formed within mussels.
