17" in total length, with a simple but beautifully carved M.O.P. crucifix, the 1 15/16" x 15/16" cross with rough hewn faceting along its edges, the figure of Jesus carved in relief and well proportioned (a quality not always seen in these items). All the hand-carved MOP beads are present, most around 1/4" in diameter, the slightly larger end beads with floral silver caps. Each side of the cast silver center medal has a fine fleur-de-lis (a "flower of the Lilly", perhaps symbolic of Christ as "The Lilly of the Valley").
All-pearl rosaries are very difficult to find, especially older ones (some newer but much cruder ones are made in the Holy Land). This one is possibly French, from around the early 1900's, with everything in excellent condition including the lovely pearl crucifix!
Specialists in Mother of Pearl (M.O.P.) and other nacreous shell, both artifacts and raw materials.
Pearlescence and chatoyance predominate, with occasional amber, linens, china, and select "smalls".
