Set of Two Antique Fashion Plate Shadow Boxes with Exquisitely Dressed Figures. The hand colored fashion plates are from an 1870s French La Mode Illustree. The dresses have delightfully minute details and perfect scale in regard to the fabric texture/patterns, fit, folds and contours. The bodices are built up to have a wonderful 3-d female shape and even the hats stand out from the print a good half inch.

A wonderful sewing technique that features the ladies dressed in delicately made very full dresses and accessories constructed from silk, satin, cotton, velvet, ribbon and lace. High quality, finely made costumes and framing. The original wallpaper backing paper remains and they look all original, never opened or messed with. Outside dimensions of the frames are 12.5 by 15.5 inches.

Condition is about very good plus with a few minor imperfections, frame nicks, stains on the back etc., but nothing that detracts from their overall beauty. Importantly, in front there are no stains, discolorations or fading of the fabric.

Included with this set is a second set of two framed (under glass) unmodified La Mode fashion plates one of which is the very same plate as one of those used in the shadow boxes. This makes for an interesting exhibit when you display the shadow boxes with the unmodified plates.
