What a beautiful and rare Victorian secretary desk. We have never had this form before in our 30 years of business! It’s all original and in fabulous condition. Check out the boldly carved crest and the delicately turned gallery. Amazingly, there are no breaks or repairs! Notice the extensive use of dramatic burled walnut and the ebonized molding for accent. The top door has a deeply recessed burled walnut panel and its original working lock and key. Below is a burled covered box which actually lifts and folds forward to reveal a blue felted writing surface and a large storage area for papers, etc. This area comes with its working lock and key. On either side are pencil/pen holders or wells. Another great feature is that the top door is designed to drop down to cover the paper storage area and provide a larger writing surface. This also reveals additional storage which is beautifully accented with 2 Carpathian elm drawers and 7 cubbies or filing slots. The large center cubby has an arched design along its top mimicking the others, but is actually a secret drawer! Below the writing surfaces are 2 doors with deeply recessed and raised burled walnut panels. The doors retain their original working lock and key. Inside is a single shelf. Check out the boldly carved elements on either side of the doors and the repeated raised burled walnut panels on the sides. Everywhere you look there is evidence of quality and attention to detail. The desk rests on its original casters. The finish is original and in fabulous condition having the most desirable color and patina. What a gem this is! 56.5"h X 38.5"w X 21"-31"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1870's.
