This dynamic grandfather clock was made by the prestigious Waltham Clock Co, Waltham, MA. The mahogany case has an unusual and rare style having a Bombay or kettle bottom base with boldly carved paw feet. The clocks bonnet has an arched top with turned and carved finials on either side. Notice the deeply and finely carved shell on the arched top. The bonnet has an arched glass door and wooden screens on either side which enriches the clock’s sounds and tunes. The door retains its working lock and key. The beautifully designed clock face has a gilded over brass cut work pattern surrounding the inside and outside of the silvered dial. The dial has raised gilded over brass numerals. Notice the Waltham Clock Co. label along the bottom of the dial. The face also has a sweep second hand dial as well. In addition, there is a chime or silent hand should you choose to not hear the chimes and another hand to silence the strike sounds or not. The clock also has a moon dial which rotates and can be set to follow the various phases of the moon. The clock is in excellent working condition and has been completely cleaned and serviced. There are five tubes which play or chime the Westminster tune progressively every ¼” hour. In addition, the clock will strike hour. The clock has a beautiful resonating sound. Notice the shapely beveled glass door which accesses the 3 original brass weights and brass pendulum. The door retains its original lock. The case retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having a warm color and desirable patina.
