This dramatic walnut Victorian secretary desk and bookcase measures just under 9’ tall. The cabinet comes apart in 3 separate pieces for ease in transporting. The secretary can be displayed without the top crest, making its height 92”, well under 8’ tall. The bold pierced carved crest has delicate incised designs and trefoil finials. Notice the multiple raised panels of burled walnut framing the double glass doors. The doors retain their original glass and working lock with key. Inside are 3 original adjustable shelves. The double barrel cylinder roll has large recessed panels of burled walnut and its original ebonized pulls. The barrel front smoothly rolls back to reveal a pull out writing surface, 2 small drawers and 6 small and one large cubby. The green wool felt writing surface is original and very worn. The fabric can be replaced for an additional charge, if desired. Below is a long single drawer over 2 doors. Both have their original locks and pulls. Inside the doors is a single shelf. The drawer and doors have recessed and raised paneled fronts with burled walnut. Notice the narrow bands of burled walnut repeated along the base of the secretary’s front edge and the shapely side raised panel. The finish is in excellent condition having a deep rich color and patina. What a grand statement this will make in any home or office. 92"-105"h X 44"w X 25"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1870's.
