This set of 10 solid walnut Victorian dining chairs can be attributed to the well-known Philadelphia furniture maker, Daniel Pabst. Sets of this size and quality are extremely hard to find. I can't remember the last time we had such an exceptional Victorian set. The attention to detail is noticeable throughout. Notice the delicately carved bell flowers along the prominently pierced carved crest; the fully turned and fluted columns with carved acanthus leaves on their bases and capitals along the chair backs. All the mouldings are deep and complicated. The seats are generous and shapely. The front of the seats or seat rail is richly and deeply carved. The trumpet shaped legs have multiple turnings with deep, delicate carvings throughout. All the legs retain their original brass casters. The chairs are extremely comfortable and all the frames are tight. The finish is in excellent condition having a rich, warm color and very desirable patina. These chairs are designed to handle use. The leather coverings on the backs are in good shape but the seats will require reupholstering. What a treat to own this fine set of Renaissance Revival Victorian dining chairs. 44.5"h X 20"w X 20"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1860-1870's.
