This solid oak secretary with bookcase top is extremely well made. The attention to detail is exceptional. The desk comes apart in 2 pieces for ease in moving. Below the bold cornice are deeply carved decorative design followed by 2 ornate leaded glass doors with an open shelving unit in the center. Amazingly, the leaded glass is in excellent condition. The doors retain their original working locks, hardware and key. Inside each door are 2 adjustable shelves. Below is an ornately carved drop down center panel. Inside is a black leather writing surface, 10 various sized cubbies, 3 drawers and 2 pencil holders. On either side of the center panel is a recessed panel door having 3 shelves inside each of them. All have their original cast brass pulls and working locks. The base has 3 hand dovetailed drawers with raised paneled fronts. These are followed by 3 doors with both raised and recessed decorative panels on their fronts. All of these doors and drawers have their original cast brass working locks and hardware. The secretary and bookcase rests on heavily molded bracket feet. The secretary retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having a warm color and very desirable patina.
