This walnut Victorian cylinder roll desk is in a hard to find narrow width. The secretary comes apart in 3 pieces; the crest, the bookcase top and the desk base. The ornate crest has carved stylized flowers in the center with incised carvings and applied panels of burled walnut. Notice the additional burled walnut panels above the glass doors and the columns at the corners. There are delicate carvings or capitals at the top of the columns. The 2 doors retain their original glass and working lock with key. Inside are 3 adjustable shelves. The cylinder roll has a recessed panel of burled walnut with additional burled walnut applied on the sides and its original ebonized pulls. The front rolls back to expose a slide out, felt covered writing surface. Inside are 5 cubbies and 2 drawers for storage. The drawers have burled walnut fronts and their original wooden pulls. Below are 3 drawers all having their original ornate brass pulls, working locks and burled walnut fronts. The burled walnut side columns with the delicately carved capitals are repeated at the corners. The desk retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having a rich color and desirable patina. 92"h X 37"w X 21"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1880's.
