This walnut music cabinet is in the Renaissance Revival Victorian style. These were designed to hold sheet music and were popular and a necessity in the Victorian period. The tall, heavily carved crest has applied panels of burled walnut and carved side galleries. The height from the floor to the bottom of the crest is 34”. Notice the gently curved sides and shapely mirrored door. The cabinet retains its original lock. Inside are 5 original, removable, horizontal shelves. The curved corners on the cabinet have delicate incised carvings and recessed paneled sides. Another wonderful feature is the hidden drawer located below the door. The drawer front has a finely carved decorative element on the front. The delicate looking cabriole legs have bold carvings on their knees and feet. Amazingly, the cabinet is all original and in excellent condition. There are some subtle stains on the top, but to be expected and nothing offensive. What a wonderful solid walnut piece that would work well in a hallway, as and end table or as a bedside stand. 42"h X 24"w X 14"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1870's.
