This pair of Chippendale side or dining chairs is in the Philadelphia style. The solid mahogany frames are expertly carved. The tall chair backs have ornately carved crests displaying a fleur de lis and acanthus leaves. The pierced carved crests have a Gothic influence. The upholstered seats are covered in a velvet type fabric. They have some minor stains. The seats can be easily removed and recovered. Notice the carved shell on the front seat rail and the deeply carved acanthus leaves on the knees of the front legs. The chairs rest on boldly carved ball and claw feet. The frames are all tight and their finishes are in excellent condition having a rich color and desirable patina. 40"h X 21"w X 20"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1900.
