This unusually small, Centennial, mahogany corner cupboard is in the Chippendale style. The cabinet’s time period and style is referred to as Centennial. Such furnishings were emphasized during the Centennial celebration of our nation. The 2 piece cabinet has a dramatically arched “swans neck” crest with intricately carved roundels. The crest has 3 flame finials and a panel with a deeply carved shell surrounded by acanthus leaves. The center finial is a replacement. The arched top beveled glass door retains its original cast brass key escutcheons and working lock with key. Inside is a single shelf. Notice the fluted quarter columns at the top and base. Below the glass door is a delicately carved shell ornament and an open display area backed with 2 beveled glass mirrors. The height of this open area is 9.25”. The corner cabinet base has a hand dovetailed raised paneled drawer over 2 doors. The drawer retains its original pierced cast brass pulls. The recessed paneled doors retain their original cast brass key escutcheons and working lock with key. Notice the finely carved panels on the doors. There is another carving below the doors. The cabinet rests on boldly carved ball and claw feet with stylized carved shells on the knees. The corner cabinet retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having the richest color and patina. This corner cupboard will require each wall to measure at least 19” wide. 79"h X 26"w X 15"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1880's.
