This 5 piece rosewood Victorian sofa set is in the Rococo Revival period. The matching set consists of a sofa, armchair, and 3 side chairs. The sofa measures 66” wide, 30” deep and 44” tall. The gentleman’s armchair measures 24” wide, 30” deep and 46” tall. Each of the side chairs measures 18” wide, 19” deep and 42” tall. All have a deeply carved crest. These carvings are not shallow and the flowers are extremely well executed and highly detailed. Notice the carved basket in the central crest on the sofa with the cascading acanthus leaves. The bold carvings extend along the arm supports and along the legs. The seats have serpentine shaped fronts with additional robust carvings along their skirts. Look closely and you will see that the fabric on the side chairs is the same color as the sofa and armchair but of a different type. The sofa and armchair have soft velvet upholstery. All the apricot/peach colored fabric is in excellent condition. The frames are all tight and in excellent condition. The finish on the parlor set is also in excellent condition. The sofa and gent’s chair are actually quite comfortable! Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1860's.
