This Victorian lady’s desk is called a Davenport desk and is made of walnut and cherry. Its unique design is referred to as Aesthetic Victorian. The two small boxes on top have a stylized inlaid cherry design on the recessed burled walnut panels with ebonized and brass pulls. Inside one box is a single adjustable shelf and the other has 2 adjustable shelves. There are delicate looking spindled galleries on top and back. The desk has an inset leather writing surface with burled walnut framing the leather. The lid lifts up to reveal a large storage compartment, 5 small cubbies and 2 small drawers with their original white porcelain pulls. The desk is missing its original lock. Notice the beautiful cherry inlay, ebonized accents and burled walnut panels on the front and 2 sides. What makes this a Davenport desk are the drawers and/or door located on the side rather than the front. One side has 4 drawers with their original ebonized and brass pulls. The other side has a door which opens to 4 separate cubbies inside. The door is missing its original lock and has a period appropriate pull. Check out the turned and carved columns in the front. The desk rests on its casters. The finish is in excellent condition and has a rich color and desirable patina. 42.5"h X 27"w X 22.5"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1870's.
