This unusual oak barrister bookcase was made by Gunn Furniture Co. What makes this unit unusual is the desk section. Such bookcases are often referred to as lawyer or stacking bookcases. The bookcase consists of 7 separate sections; a cap, 4 bookcase pieces, a fall front desk and a base. The bookcase pieces have original glass fronts which rise up and slide back for access. Three of the sections will accommodate books 9” tall and one will accommodate books up to 13” tall. The depth of the sections is 10”. All retain their original brass pulls. The desk drops down to provide a writing surface. The desk retains its original working lock, key and brass key escutcheon. Inside are 9 various sized cubbies, 2 card file drawers with their original brass hardware and 2 small drawers. The solid oak bookcase/desk retains its original finish which is in excellent condition. 72.75"h X 34"w X 14.25"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1900.
