This handsome, mahogany armchair is referred to as a Morris chair. These were the early recliners in which a bar could be moved to allow the back to recline in 4 different angles. Notice the decorative and heavy cast iron hardware which supports the brass and iron bar. The ornately carved mahogany chair has extremely wide and comfortable arm rests. Notice the pierced arm decorative element on the side under the arm rests and the fully turned fluted columns. The chair rests on boldly carved paw feet. The finish appears original which is in excellent condition having a deep rich color and patina. The chair retains its original casters. The 2 cushions will need to be reupholstered. This chair is extremely comfortable and is designed to accommodate people of all sizes. 43"h X 31"w X 31"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1880's.
