This solid cherry handmade two piece cabinet is generally referred to as a Welsh cupboard or pewter cupboard. The design is based on a 1700’s style. The entire cabinet is all hand dovetailed using square nail construction. Even the back is hand planed! This was obviously custom made by a small cabinet shop specializing in handmade 18th century style furniture. The top has a bold cornice with a decorative carved treatment below with a delicate beaded edge. Notice the 3 shelves which are dovetailed into the side and the delicate beaded edge as well. Each shelf has a plate groove. You can easily admire the hand dovetailing on the top case and bottom case. The base cabinet has 3 hand dovetailed drawers with raised paneled fronts. Even the bottoms of the drawers are hand planed! All the drawers retain their period looking cast brass bales. Below are 2 pairs of raised paneled doors each having their working locks and keys. Inside each pair is a single removable shelf. The base cabinet has chamfered corners and rests on shaped bracket feet. The finish is original and in excellent condition. This custom cabinet would serve a myriad of purposes such as a china cabinet or server in the dining room or as a bookcase in the living room. 87.5"h X 74.5"w X 22"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1980's.
