This Victorian silver plated napkin ring was made by Meriden Silver Plate Co. Such figural napkin rings were a necessary dining feature in the Victorian times. The owner would identify his or her napkin by the unique holder they used. This would allow the person to re-use their cloth napkin multiple times and denoted their place at the table. This napkin holder has a decorative ring resting on top of a sled. The side of the sled is decorated with a running figure, possible a dog.
