This silvered bronze sculpture is by the French artist Alphonse Alexandre Arson (1822-1880). He consistently exhibited at the Paris Salon and won a bronze medal in 1877. He originally began his career as a painter but later became an animalier sculptor. As an animalier or animal sculptor, he belonged to a group an early 19th century French artists who specialized in realistic figures of animals. The attention to detail and size of this piece is exceptional. The design is of a pair of birds feeding their young. The nest is hidden among cattails and leaves. The silvering is in excellent condition. The piece is free of any damage or repair. What an incredible piece of animalier artwork by a highly respected 19th century sculptor. 18"h X 7"w X 5"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1870's.
