This exceptional 9 tube hall or grandfather clock is marked Bawo and Dotter. They were a prestigious firm which dealt in high end in porcelains and clocks. They imported desirable German made clock movements and installed them in American cases. This movement is made by Elite, Germany. This solid mahogany case has an arched top, boldly designed cornice and imposing ¾ columns. There is a lovely cut out design on the sides which is fabric backed to allow the chiming sounds to resonate. The clock bonnet door has its original brass lock and key. Check out the ornately pierced gilded cast brass face and decorative silvered dial with raised brass numerals. There is also a silvered sweep seconds dial; a chime and silent dial and a chiming selector dial. All the hands are original. There is also a silent/hour strike. The clock plays two different tunes; Westminster and Eight Bells. Notice the hand painted moon dial which rotates to indicate the phases of the moon within the month. The dial is in excellent condition and has a unique scene of a sinking ship, along with the more common cottage scene and moon face. The clock retains its original 8-day movement which is in excellent working condition. All the works have been recently cleaned and oiled. The clock gongs every hour. In addition, there are 9 nickel plated brass tubes which are played every quarter hour. They are responsible for chiming the Westminster or Eight Bells tune and have a very rich sound quality. The clock has its 3 original brass weights and pendulum as well. The lower door has a beveled glass and its original working lock. The clock comes with its winding crank. The case rests on large bun feet. The finish is in excellent condition having a rich color and patina. What a statement this will make in any home or office. 92"h X 26.5"w X 18"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1900.
