This lovely grandfather or tall case clock is signed J. Hairhouse which was a highly regarded jewelry store in Dover, NJ. The original German made 8-day movement is in excellent working condition. The works were recently cleaned and oiled. The clock strikes every hour with a single gong and also every quarter hour with a “Bim-Bam” gong and requires winding once a week. The case has an arched top bonnet with turned and carved finials. There are 2 small fully turned and carved columns on either side of the bonnet door and the lower door. Notice the pierced carved panels on either side of the upper case. This allows the striking sound to resonate. The base of the case has raised panels on the front and sides. The clock rests on boldly carved paw feet. The bonnet door retains its original lock with key. The original clock face has openwork chased and pierced gilded brass design with a decorative silvered dial. There is some typical wear on the dial. There are raised brass numerals applied to the dial. The clock retains its original fancy hands and there is a sweep second hand and dial as well. Notice the hand painted moon dial which rotates to display its different phases throughout the months. The lower case door has a beveled glass and its original working lock with key. Inside are its original brass weights and pendulum. The clock case retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and desirable patina. 83"h X 22"w X 16"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1900.
