This custom made, double pedestal dining table has 2 large leaves and will easily accommodate 12-14 people. The solid mahogany rectangular top has curved corners and banded inlay along the sides and a delicately reeded edge. This table has other unique qualities. The top of each pedestal is designed to tilt and set upright. This is based on a true 18th century style in which the dining table after use was stored off to the side to make room for other activities, such as dancing. In addition, there are individual brass clips which can be used to tighten the top and leaves together. The table originally used 2 hidden wooden slats in addition to the clips. The current slats are appropriate replacements. These are also based on an 18th century design. The pedestals have vase shaped center columns. The graceful reeded saber legs end in cast brass paw feet with casters. If you look very, very closely at one pedestal, you will see an old repair. The pedestals and table are extremely sturdy. The top has some sun fading on one end and very slight roughness in the veneer on one side. If desired, we can easily arrange for the top to be refinished. We currently have sets of chairs which would greatly compliment this Federal style dining table. 29"h X 64"-100"w X 44"d, Condition: Very Good, Circa: 1910.
