This walnut Victorian marble top cabinet is referred to as a half commode. They were originally part of a bedroom set. They were half the size of a standard washstand or commode, hence the name half commode. Their size is perfect for use in a foyer or as an end or bedside table. This stand is finished on all four sides which means it can be used out in a room rather than against a wall. The original marble also has a finished edge on all 4 sides and is in excellent condition. The hand dovetailed drawer has a burled walnut raised paneled front and its original ebonized teardrop and brass pull. Below is a recessed paneled door and a raised burled walnut panel in the center. The door retains its original working lock and key. The stand has recessed paneled ends and back as well. It rests on its original casters.
