This Centennial Sheraton or federal style sideboard or buffet is made of solid mahogany. During our 100 year celebration as a nation, earlier styles such as federal, Chippendale, Queen Anne, etc. were revived and popularized. As a result, such furniture was marketed and sold by custom furniture makers during the revival in the 1870-1880’s. These custom furnishings are referred to as Centennial furniture. This sideboard reflects many features found in true Sheraton period examples from 1800-1820’s. Below the shapely top are four hand dovetailed drawers. The large center drawer has a “D” shaped front. All have flame mahogany fronts and fine cockbeading surrounding the drawers; working locks; and brass ring pulls. The two smaller drawers were referred to as candle drawers in the Sheraton period. Notice the uniquely shaped center doors and the 2 narrow bottle drawers on either side. Each bottle drawer has an insert designed to hold 3 bottles or decanters just like original Sheraton buffets. On either end are 2 tall doors, each having a single shelf. All the doors and hand dovetailed drawers have beautiful flame mahogany fronts. All retain their original working locks and key except one. The sideboard rests on tall reeded and turned legs. The ends of the sideboard have recessed panels. The top has some areas of wear and use, but overall the finish is in excellent condition having a warm color and rich patina. 42"h X 70"w X 22"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1880's.
