This centennial custom made, solid mahogany lowboy is in the Chippendale style. Centennial furniture refers to furnishings produced in the last quarter of the 1800's. We were celebrating the 100th anniversary of our nation and the styles from the 1770's were of interest and revived again. The top has a lovely moulded edge with carved corners. There is a long drawer over 3 side by side drawers. All the drawers have a moulded lip, original brass pulls and are hand dovetailed. The center drawer has a finely and deeply carved shell. All the drawers open and close smoothly. Notice the shapely cut out skirt on the front and sides of the cabinet. The lowboy rests on graceful legs with boldly carved ball and claw feet. The finish is original and in excellent condition. The top has some rubs and subtle scratches, which is to be expected. The color is rich and has a very desirable patina. 30"h X 35"w X 20.5"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1880's.
