What a fabulous pedestal! This ebonized piece is a classic example of the Aesthetic Victorian period. The pedestal is massive in size and weight and was turned from one solid piece of wood! The top platform is made of marble and is designed to rotate, allowing the sculpture or item to be viewed from all angles. Notice the boldly carved stylized flowers and leaves encircling the center column. There is a band of incised line carving above and a band of incised, carved stylized leaves along the base. The pedestal has several cracks which are to be expected given its one piece construction. None of the cracks run completely through to the other side. Hence, there is no concern that its structure has been compromised. The original marble is in excellent condition. The pedestal finish appears original and is in excellent condition. This pedestal will easily accommodate a larger or more massive sculpture than most. Its styling, design and originality make it a stand out! 41"h X 14.75"w X 14.75"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1870's.
