This handsome solid mahogany roll top desk is a very desirable size for your home or office. The desk has a tall "S" shaped tambour which rises and lowers smoothly and is in excellent condition. The desk retains its original brass key escutcheon and working lock with key. Inside the desk has 27 various sized cubbies for storage. There are 2 pencil ledges as well. Look closely and you will see that one small pencil drawer on the right is missing. Also, upon further close inspection you may notice (or not) that a drawer would have been located in each of the 2 bottom cubbies. This hardly detracts from its function or aesthetics. On either side of the roll top are narrow cut out openings. These were originally intended to insert notes, letters, bill, etc. into the desk interior while the top is locked and secured – clever, huh. The slots also added ventilation to the interior of the desk. Below the writing surface are 2 banks of drawers with beautifully carved wooden pulls and recessed paneled fronts. Each has a slide out writing surface. There are 4 drawers on one side. The top drawer retains its original lock. The other side has 2 drawers and one deep file drawer. This top drawer is missing its lock. Notice how even the desk chair opening has beautiful recessed and raised panels. The panels are repeated on the sides and back. There is an inch round hole in the back of the desk, most likely done to accommodate computer wires. This can be fixed for additional monies if it bothers you. The desk finish is in excellent condition. It comes apart in 2 main sections for ease in moving. 50"h X 50"w X 31.5"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1890's.
