This handsome solid mahogany bookcase has many unique features. The top steps down in the center with subtly carved acanthus leaves on each corner of the raised ends. There are gadrooned carvings along the 3 fronts and sides. Notice how the center part of the cabinet also steps in slightly providing interesting shape and movement to the piece. The top centerboard appears to have been professionally replaced or changed at some time. All 3 doors appear to have their original glass and working locks with a key. The interior measurements of the end doors are 13" deep, 19.5" wide and 46.5" tall. Each side has 3 adjustable shelves. The center door interior measurements are 10.5 " deep, 27.5" wide and 42" tall with 3 adjustable shelves. The base of the bookcase has 3 dovetailed drawers with heavily carved fronts. Notice the shell carving on the center drawer. All have their original heavy cast brass pulls. The gadroon carving is repeated along the base of the bookcase. The cabinet rests on boldly carved Chippendale ball and claw feet. The finish is original and in excellent condition having a deep rich color and patina. 61"h X 72.25"w X 16"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1890-1910.
