What an incredibly gold gilt vanity or console! The surface is gilded, not painted. The oval mirror has a pierced and deeply carved crest. The flowers and leaves are boldly and realistically carved. The mirror rests in a frame, which allows it to tilt forward or backward or swivel left or right. The yoke shaped frame repeats the leaf and floral carvings. Notice the pair of reclining winged griffins supporting the mirror. The wings, feet and head are exquisitely carved. The shapely marble top is original and in excellent condition. The highly curvaceous base is dramatic with its pierced and bold carvings, representing leaves and flowers cascading throughout. It's unique form, quality and condition makes this piece a stand out in any room. The mirrored glass is original but is extremely hazy. The glass can be replaced, but I find its present condition enhances its overall appeal. The console is in excellent condition having no breaks or repairs. The gold leafing appears to have been enhanced at an earlier time. The patina and wear of the gold finish is exceptional. 70"h X 36"w X 20"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1860's.
