Here we have, a beautiful, Zsonay, Hungary, Eosin, green/gold glazed porcelain candle holder or stand. Beautiful piece. Almost looks like a Tiffany or Loetz or Durand piece. The iridescence stands out, having lots of gold, and green, with blue hues, depending on how you looks at it in the light. Marked on the base with the Zsonay mark, with Zsonay Hungary over a shield, with a scroll underneath with 1868 inside, and underneath that, PECS, Hand Painted. Looks like some type of Egyptian pattern around the piece. Great condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It measures 2" high, 4 3/4" wide, and has a 4" base. The glaze was developed in the mid 1850's and this is the first color developed, according to what I found out. Many other colors have been developed, and they are still making pieces with this type of glaze. Great piece of early porcelain to add to a collection. If you didn't know better, you could pass this off as a piece of very nice art glass, but it is a nice porcelain piece!
