Here we have, a very nice WWI trench art artillery shell vase. History all over the piece! U.S. Navy prisoner of war made, and it has his name, place being held, and the years held on the piece, with other writings on the base. It is crimped around the body as you can see, with roses around the top, and U.S.N. on one side, and the Navy anchor on the other. Two stars on the top, with his name, Joseph Nolan Hamersly, and around the bottom it is marked, Welt-Krieg, 1914-19. The bottom is marked by the prisoner who made the piece, and is marked, Made by prisoner of war Primo Mugga Dorf...... Sy........... Can't make out the last two words. So there is history of two prisoners of war on the piece. They must have been friends in the camp. Great piece of military history, with all kinds of documentation on it. It measures 13 3/4" high, 3" wide at the top, and has a 3 3/8" base. Marked AM lot, nfg, lot 1334NYAB. Nicest shell vase that I have listed! Great for a collection!
