Here we have, a nice, Springfield Arms, Bolo machete, which has been modified. During its 100 plus years, someone has ground the blade to make a large knife. I guess they wanted something with a punch, seeing how heavy the piece is. The photo with my finger next to the blade shows how thick the blade is, 1/4" wide! It is marked on the blade, S A 1913, and on the opposite side it is marked U.S. 35707. Listing this for a friend who doesn't collect this type of stuff, so he wanted to sell it. The piece measures 16 1/2" long, so it is a nice heavy weapon. These were made with a larger blade, which was kind of rounded at the end, and broad, maybe 4-5". It has a homemade sheath that goes with it. The blade has been ground down to give it the Bowie knife shape, and has some grind marks on the blade. No idea when it was done, but is has to be a while. This came out of a warehouse storage in Florida, where the gentleman who had it stored things he loaned money on during his lifetime. Listing at the price that my friend wants to put on it, but you be the judge. Great looking knife, and a heavy piece!
