A Royal Hickman Florida, Pierced Vase that is brown with a chartreuse drip glaze, circa the 1940s. Very organic and abstract with sharp geometric angles in its shape and color, it measures over fourteen inches in height. This beautiful art deco pottery piece is from his Tampa, Florida Studio. Marked with his name, the number 574, it is in excellent vintage condition. It pairs nicely with item # 3522 and # 4198 in my inventory, they have been together for a very long time.
First, as a metal sculptor and potter in California, then on to Illinois, Royal Hickman worked for Haeger until 1944 but continued to contribute additional designs to the firm during the 1950s on a freelance basis. He operated art pottery studios in Tennessee and Florida in the '40s and '50s. Hickman also designed crystal animal figurines for the Heisey Glass Company.
