The sweetest little bird circa the early 1940's signed and dated on the bottom by California Pottery Artist Kay Finch. Measuring approximately four and one half inches tall and four inches wide at the wing span, it is in near mint vintage condition. The signature is clear, the date looks to be 1941, but it is harder to read. This was not a production piece, but an original one off prototype made by Ms. Finch.
Kay Finch Ceramics began in 1939 in a studio next to Kay and Braden Finch's home in Corona del Mar. With early success, they moved to a studio and Kay Finch Ceramics retail showroom on the Pacific Coast Highway. After Braden Finch died in 1962, Kay closed the business. Some of her molds were sold to Freeman-McFarlin of El Monte, who also contracted with Kay for new designs. Kay Finch died in 1993.
