Portrait of a gentleman with hat in hand by Elva Joan Blacker (19? - 1955) England, circa the1940's. Signed on the lower right, it measures approximately eighteen inches by twenty four inches overall in a period wood frame.
Known as a portrait painter and miniaturist, Blacker studied at the Slade College of Art. During WWII she served in the WAAF as a Sgt. where she painted portraits of her colleagues. Ms. Blacker exhibited from 1931 to 1939 at the Cooling And Sons Gallery and the RA, RI among others. RAF Museum houses her work.
There is a fair amount of glare on the full length photo. It is in excellent ready to hang condition.
