A Royal Hickman Florida, Large Pierced Gladiola Vase that is brown with chartreuse drip glaze, circa 1949 - 1953. Very organic in its shape and color, it measures eleven inches across by fourteen inches in height. This beautiful arts and crafts pottery piece is from his Tampa, Florida Studio. Marked with his name, the number 613, there are no cracks and only normal crazing. Of note: two small nicks on the base. The design is indicative of Hickman and perfect for a tropical decor or collector. This mid century modern find is in excellent vintage condition.
First as a metal sculptor and potter in California, then on to Illinois, Royal Hickman worked for Haeger until 1944, but continued to contribute additional designs to the firm during the 1950s on a freelance basis. He operated studio art potteries, in Tennessee and Florida in the 40's and 50's. Hickman also designed crystal animal figurines for the Heisey Glass Company.
