This charming stick pin holder comes from Bavaria and dates from the mid to late 19th century. It's quite unusual in that it is figural rather than the usual vase shaped holders that were made. Stick pins had become a "must have" for the men at this time, to decorate their lapels or ties with, and so followed the necessity of having something to put them into. This particular holder is beautifully detailed both in shape and decoration, and has a wonderful glaze that is in near mint condition. Although there is no mark, this is not unusual since there were many manufacturers of porcelain that were exported to the rest of the world; mostly likely this one was made as a souvenir gift which was extremely popular at the time. The holder stands 4 1/4" in height and is about 1 1/2" around. This is the perfect piece for a collector of stick pins.
