Here is a beautiful pair of vanity jars that were always a necessity at one time. A hair receiver was used to store loose hair gathered from the comb and brush and later "recycled" into various uses such as adding volume to a hairstyle, or as stuffing for pin cushions and other small items. Most often these hair receivers were accompanied by a matching powder jar such as this set has. Originating during the Victorian period, these popular dresser items were in use well into the 20's; thereafter they were often handed down from generation to generation as keepsakes. These sets were made of hand painted porcelain, cut glass, metal and later in celluloid (early plastic). This set is of cut glass and has very fine detail and is in excellent condition without chips or cracks; each jar measures 4 1/2" in diameter and is 2 3/4" in height. A beautiful addition to any vanity!
