Here's another beautiful lacquer box from the village of Fedoskino in Russia. The artists in this colony use thinly diluted oil paints over thin layers of gold or silver leaf which creates a wonderful reflecting light in the painting. This particular box has a winter scene with a farm in the foreground and a monastery and church in the background with a river running between the two along with trees and a warm winter sky reflecting the sunset. A wonderful panorama of the truly beautiful "Russian" winter! Across the bottom of the scene is scripted "Fedoskino" on the left side and "Whiteout" which translated means everything is white with snow. The front and back side of the box is also decorated with intricate floral-like patterns. The measurements are 1 1/4" in height, 1 7/8" in width, and 1" in depth, and the box is in mint condition!
