This lovely lacquered box comes from the village of Fedoskino in Russia, and is titled "Summer" showing a beautiful church and village with a river running through. One of the unique techniques of the Fedoskino artists is their "translucent painting" which is done by coating the background with gold or silver leaf and then over painting it with several layers of thinly diluted oil paints producing an effect of light shining through. On this particular box that is used in the area of the river, although it does not show up in the photo. This beautiful box has a hinged lid and is decorated on the front and back sides and is signed and dated on the bottom; it reads "Fedoskino 1999" and signed by the artist V. Gregorov. It measures 1 1/4" in height, 3" in width, and 2 1/4" in depth, and is in mint condition!
