This unusual oil lamp comes from Europe and dates from the early Victorian period, around 1860. It's base is made of gilt brass with a running leaf and flower motif on the bottom and top sections, which contain the crystal centerpiece. The arm is solid cast and gilt with an elaborate scroll and floral decoration, while the hanging basket (also gilt brass) has three intricate chains and the original antique glass. This type of oil lamp was filled with oil and had a floating wick, and was used mostly for "night light" in bedrooms. The piece stands 11" high with a 3 3/4" base; the lamp part is 5 3/4" (including chains) and is 3" in diameter. In fine condition, but please note that there is an very old chip on the glass which has been worn down and does not affect the use of it at all. Rarely found in today's antique market, this is a very special piece of Victoriana for your home!
