Czarevitch Alexei was born August 12, 1904 to Czar Nicholas and Alexandra of Russia, the only son and heir to the throne. The entire family was murdered July 17, 1918 in Yakaterinburg following the Russian Revolution. This portrait was made when he was 3 to 4 years old, and was made into a postcard with his title inscribed on it. The picture frame itself is of silverplated metal with a running Greek Key motif as a border, and is contemporary to the period. Aside from the obvious wear from handling, is in very good condition, including the back stand, and measures 5 3/4" in height by 4 1/4" in width. This is a rarely found piece of genuine historical memorabilia, and a great addition to any collection!
