This beautiful vase was made during the 1880's at the height of production of opalescent glass in England and the United States. This translucent glass has the tones of the opal gemstone, thus the terms "opaline" and "opalescent". Often times it was hand painted, and in this particular piece it was also decorated with coralene, many small glass beads fired on the outside of the glassware. Adding to the charm of this vase is the ruffled crown. Also note that it has a rough pontil on the bottom (no photo) indicative of hand blown glassware. It measures 8" in height and 3 1/2" in diameter. A very special piece!
