Here is a wonderful mustache cup and saucer that comes from England and dates around the 1880's. It is done in the Anglo Japanese style, which related to the Aesthetic Movement of the period. Artistically, this was a return to nature and all of it's incredible details, thus a pattern of leaves as seen in this set, is done in earth tones with gold accents; note the stylized handle which is indicative of this style. Mustache cups were popular during the last half of the 19th century when large flowing mustaches were popular; the ledge inside the cup kept the mustache from getting all wet. This set is in very fine condition and the measurements are 4" diameter (4 7/8" with handle) by 2 2/8" in height for the cup, and 6 1/4" diameter for the saucer. A perfect piece for the collector or as a gift to the "man with a mustache"!
