LAST CALL! 40% OFF! Offered is a very handsome, Victorian era watch holder. It was, we assume, meant for a man's dresser to hold his pocket watch during the night time hours. This carries some Gothic like features with its dark, painted wood, its church-like spindles and its red velvet. The notched edge, circular area that would hold the watch would do so with a metal hook at the top. The red velvet would offer protection for the metal back of the watch. We swear that this well-worn velvet has a shadow of clock hands at 4:00. About mid-way down are wire holders or sconces that hold small circles of very worn red velvet pedestals. We are not sure of the purpose of these--perhaps for cuff links or collar studs? There are single tiny, tiny holes in the middle of the velvet circles. At the center of these two rounds is a horizontal turned spindle or rod serving an unknown purpose other than decorative. The base has a notched edge and a well. The holder is 6 1/2" tall; 4 1/4" base; the watch holder circle is 2 1/2" in diameter, the smaller pedestals are 1 1/4" in diameter. We found no markings to identify the maker. We found no repairs, no glued areas, but there is some worn off paint on the bottom of the base at one edge. Item 7226a Lot Ftote
