Ideal Baby Doll 1940's for Salvage
Offered is an Ideal baby doll dating from the 1940's. We are offering her for salvage and will explain why in a moment. We need some help here from the doll experts, too. This doll is only marked with a patent number on the back of her head. It reads Made in USA No. 225207. When we looked this up we found that it registered for an Ideal doll in the 1940's and the patent seems specific for "magic skin" which seems to be a soft vinyl. This doll is composition. Looking for other Ideal baby dolls under this patent, we found many, but with browned legs and arms, noted to be an issue with the doll's vinyl magic skin. The head appears to be the same as ours. She has sleep eyes, molded hair. Her head rolls on the shoulder plate which is attached to a stuffed muslin body, as are the arms and legs. She is definitely composition and the composition is heavily cracked on the legs and arms. Her face is in pretty good shape--her face has a couple minor cracks. Mostly it is dirty and we did not want to attempt damaging her by applying anything more than water and a cloth. She is not dressed in contemporary clothing, except possibly her black knit socks. She is wearing white cotton panties affixed with a safety pin. The rest of her outfit is actually vintage open work and lace doily and dresser scarf made to be a top and a lace edged skirt. She is 15" tall and 11" chest. We are offering because we thought someone may be able to use "parts" for re-construction. Item 3447 Lot 7/1/7
